Plenty of LGBTQ+ characters exist throughout the Dungeons and Dragons setting, with varying degrees of relevancy. That's not a knock, as I firmly believe in proper representation, not tokenism. Queer characters should have varying degrees of plot importance like everybody else for a more organic experience. My first encounter with Dungeons and Dragons was not a positive one. Sitting around a gaming table in the back were a handful of boys and men. They seemed to range between the ages of fifteen and forty, and they were all white.

Since its launch in , Dungeons & Dragons has garnered the reputation of a tabletop roleplaying game primarily for straight, cisgender men - a stereotype derived from a bit of truth.
